Without a doubt. I deal with insurance marketing. The traditional methods of advertising via telephone directory have diminished as they have simply become too exensive and unaffective, the age of online insurance is here to stay.

The company that I work for is planning to reduce their UK call centre operations by 25% in 2008 and put a proportion of their budget into online marketing and promotion. I work for a ‘mid size’ yet established insurer who has only a small online operation. If this is indicative then we could see a lot of job cuts in the next 2 - 3 years.

DS I agree with your position - My firm is turning more to technology and outsourcing. Not so long ago we were able to feel professional because we had to learn how to underwrite car insurance policies, now the public are able to type what ever they like as their details and then buy online! Its as if all standards that were once sacred are just being thrown out the window

DS your position is sadly one that is becoming very popular. We have seen major firms like Norwich Union outsourcing to India resulting in thousands on insurance staff being made redundant but when SME’s are suffering job cuts we know there is a problem. There is also a very real concern that technology is costing jobs.

Been in the motor insurance game for 16 years and thought I had a career. Our firm has started to focus on the buy online solution for car insurance punters which is my area of underwriting. I had full authority on 4 good delagated schemes but now they are looking to ‘computerise’ the discounts, whats the point! This is why I’m getting out the game, sorry to be negative but thats the way it is, just another skilled workforce gone to the wall
